Koyaanisqatsi, Godfrey Reggio (1983)

Godfrey Reggio’s Koyaanisqatsi translates from Hopi and Indian term meaning (life out of balance), where the experimental video opens with Ancient native American cave drawings, with non diegetic chanting music playing in the background. When watching Koyaanisqatsi, the visual images vary from extremely dull colouring of the Ancient native American cave drawings to the bright coloured clothing of Americas 1980's dress sense, when observing the imagery used throughout the experimental video, i came up wth the conclusion that the audio used throughout scenes clashes completely with the images shown, for example, when Reggio was focused on the cloud formations over America, the music playing was of a hauting non diegetic nature showing the natural forces that nature intended. I think that the concept of the video is trying to give across is completely up to the audience, i belive that Koyaanisqatsi is giving the message that we are technology, a state of life with another way of living.

Doll Face (Andy Huang)

Doll Face, is a computer animation with the concept that media influences everything and anyone.
With a robot symbolising an ordinary girl, watching a tv screen, in an empty room, as if being pressured to want to look as the media intends. Focusing on a womens face, applying make-up, whilst the robot watching the screen mimics the face she then sees but, when the face changes, the robot would then change again to look more similar to the current image. The TV screen starts to flick through many channels; the news things that actually matter, but then only emphasises on the womens face, as if thats all that matters to the girl. Meaning that people try to alter there appearance to either fit in or to be as if meadia intended.
