Discussion between past and current artists work, ‘Doll face’ and ‘Girl Chewing Gum’, when watching the video you the viewer would believe that the two videos are completely opposite, but under the surface the two videos are very similar portraying the truth in the Media. ‘Doll Face’ is a modern computer animation, but on the other hand ‘ Girl Chewing Gum’ is a screen shot from a gloomy day in Hackney with a voice over. But when looked at closer the two films have a lot in common how they both portray the media to be telling the truth, ‘Doll face’ is about how a women is determined to be equivalent to the women on TV and react the unreachable. The differences and more clear that the similarities ‘Girl Chewing Gum’ is in a typical street in Hackney filmed in 1976 with a director coming across telling people, cars the camera shot and objects what they should be doing but thought the video the viewers realise that is appears the director is lying and isn't actually at the film location. ‘Doll Face’ on the other hand is a computer animation creates in 2003, which is about a robot with a women's face trying to reach closer and closer to the TV as it moves closer away as if reaching for the unreachable, mimicking every flaw erased from the women in the TV.

Narrative and non narrative strustures

Narrative and non narrative structures the beginning, middle and end but also the more complex structures. When in the Tate Modern I noticed that when viewing different videos in completely different rooms, that not watching the whole video did not effect the concept I received from watching the small amout in a short time so a non-narrative structure worked a lot better in the particualar piece of art work that I watched called ‘Self Mutilation’ which was litrally a collection of alike images which the viewers can watch from the very start or part of the way through the film, and come out with the same concept.
On the other hand, some films do work better with a narrative structure as the viewers are more likely to understand and appricaiate the piece more. An example of this is ‘Doll face’ by Andy Huang which has a very strong narrative structure that cannot really be missed unless the viewer did not watch the entire film, from the begging we see and ordinary girls face, which addapts to be similar to the girl seen on the tv infront of her towards the middle, finally the girl dies as the media took control! Throughout the film I was wondering what was going on, but finally towards the end the concept clicked, without a non-narrative structure I belive the film would not have worked as well the concept and meaning wouldn’t have been as strong as with a narrative structure.
